🌞 Step 1: Start Indoors
Where: Put your egg carton by a sunny window—like a superhero headquarters!
Water: Spray with a water bottle every day. Keep soil damp—like a wet cape.
Watch: Tiny plants pop up in 1-2 weeks!
-
🧡 Tomato Tropical Sunset (7-14 days) – Green stems with super strength!
-

-
💛 Marigold Yellow Bee (5-8 days) – Sprouts with stinky shields!
-
❤️ Nasturtiums (2-6 days) – Big seeds with flower force!
🌱 Step 2: Make Them Strong (Late May)
When: Your plants grow 2-4 leaves (2-3 inches tall) by May 31st.
What to Do:
-
Pick the strongest plant in each egg cup—say “You’re my hero!”
-
Snip extras with scissors (ask a grown-up).
-
Keep watering—they’re powering up!
Super Fact: They stay inside just 3-4 weeks—charging up like superheroes before a big mission!
Craft: Watering Count Chart
-
What You Need: Paper, markers, stickers (optional).
-
How: Draw a grid with 4 rows (one for each plant) and 7 columns (one week). Write plant names on the left. Each day you water, add a check or sticker. Count how many times you water in the month of June!
-
Why: Tracks watering with math—like a superhero mission log!
🌼 Step 3: Move to the Garden (Early June)
When: Around June 10th, when it’s warm outside—no more cold villains!
Where: A sunny spot in your yard—your Squad’s battleground!
How:
-
Dig holes with a spoon:
-
🧡 Tomato Tropical Sunset – 24 inches apart (they grow tall—4-6 feet!).
-
💚 Basil Prospera – 12-18 inches apart.
-
💛 Marigold Yellow Bee – 6-12 inches apart.
-
❤️ Nasturtiums – 12-18 inches apart (they spread like capes!).
-
-
Pop plants out of the egg carton—roots and all!
-
Plant in holes, cover with dirt, pat gently—like a superhero handshake.
-
Water lots—they’re thirsty after the move!
Craft: Measure-Up Hero Ruler
-
What You Need: Cardboard strip (12 inches long), markers, ruler.
-
How: Mark every inch on the strip with a marker (count 1 to 12). Color it with Squad colors. Write “Hero Ruler” on it. Use it to measure plant spacing when transplanting! You can also use this to measure the plants as they fly high towards the sky.
-
Why: Teaches measuring—like a superhero tool!
🌿 Step 4: Grow & Glow (June-July)
Water: Give them a drink when soil’s dry—like a superhero power-up!
Watch Out:
-
🧡 Tomato Tropical Sunset – Red & orange “candy” tomatoes in July—sweet treasures!
-
💚 Basil Prospera – Big leaves to smell and taste—pizza magic!
-
💛 Marigold Yellow Bee – Yellow flowers that fight bugs—stinky guards!
-
❤️ Nasturtiums – Red, orange, or yellow flowers you can EAT—spicy blasts!
Activity: Bug Patrol Journal
-
What You Need: Small notebook or paper, pencil, crayons.
-
How: Once a week, sit by your garden for 5 minutes. Look for bugs (good ones like ladybugs, bad ones like aphids). Draw one bug you see and write its name (or ask a grown-up). Notice if marigolds and nasturtiums keep bad bugs away!
-
Why: Helps you watch your garden’s friends and foes—like a superhero scout!
🍅 Step 5: Harvest & Celebrate (July-August)
Pick Time:
-
🧡 Tomato Tropical Sunset – Grab orange cherries when they shine—yum! Tomatoes may need a cage or a stake to launch your plant high towards the sky.
-
💚 Basil Prospera – Snip leaves for snacks—sniff the superpower! Make sure to pluck off any flowers to keep your hero focusing on growing tasty nutritious leaves.
-
💛Marigold Yellow Bee – Enjoy the flowers (don’t eat too many petals—they’re protectors). Enjoy the pretty colors that are attracting beneficial insects. Make sure to remove deadheads with scissors to encourage more flowers to grow.
-
❤️ Nasturtiums – Pick flowers and leaves—taste the zing! They love to get pruned! Keep your fiery rainbow hero trimmed and make sure to eat and enjoy your harvest!
Party Idea: Make a “Super Squad Snack” with your tomatoes, basil, and nasturtiums—show off your hero haul!
Activity: Garden Senses Map
-
What You Need: Paper, crayons, pencil.
-
How: Draw a picture of your garden. Mark where each plant is. Next to each, write or draw: What do you SEE (colors)? SMELL (basil’s scent)? TASTE (tomatoes, nasturtiums)? HEAR (bees buzzing)? FEEL (soft leaves)? Share it with family!
