Have a Puppy Party in the Barn

We love hosting kids parties at Hurds, and PUPPIES seem to be one of the most popular themes with 2-6 year old's. There are countless activities that kids can do at a puppy themed birthday party for boys or girls. Check out the ones we picked for our 7th generation farmer who was turning 4.

This party took place when the farm was closed to the public outside of our fall season which gave plenty of time and space to convert the whole barn. One of the hardest decisions was would the kids be the puppies at the party or would they be using their stuffed adopted puppies for activities. We ended up doing both.

Step 1: Decorate the barn and get snacks ready before the birthday guests arrived. Our 4 year old, who loves to help, used a stencil to paint all the dogs on the custom signs for each play area.

Step 2: Choose a few activities to keep guests busy as they arrive at different times. Our opening activities included taking a picture with the birthday boy at our photo booth, kids making a collar for themselves with shrinky dinks, and getting their face or hand painted. This was also a good time for guests to watch the photo slide show on our 98" TV. The birthday boy had his own puppy songs themed playlist with some of his other favorites.

Step 3: Let the activities begin! The puppy adoption was kept secret in our red cart to surprise all the kids. We had Ms. Sarah, our farm school teacher, leading the kids through all the activities with some help from the big kids. If you want to have a party at the farm you could include all or any of these:

  • Puppy Adoption Store (optional custom adoption certificates, "dog" food, & treats)

  • Puppy Vet Check Up (the kids removed "ticks")

  • Puppy Spa (this included everything a groomer may do less the hair cut)

  • Puppy Training School (the kids be trainers and the puppies for this)

  • Puppy Playtime (we surprised kids with fake poop to scoop in the play area)

Step 4: Bark Happy Birthday. Puppy cake with cupcake tennis balls and chocolate fire hydrants (made by the big sister). Kids also took home a "poo" bag filled with candy. They got to keep all the equipment they "purchased" for adoption and used at the vet, spa, and training area.

Step 5: Relax & Let the Kids Play!
